I was sad to learn of the death of Dick recently. I have spent many happy hours in his pubs in days long gone. I know his death will represent the end of an era for many who used his pub back then.
I can think of no more fitting an end to his life than partying with friends and family in the pub he loved as if it were human, with the song "Forever ,Young" being sung. I think that would do for me too!
His daughter Jackie said that he just wanted them to raise a glass to him on his passing - Well Dick, it's early for a drink and I am not a great drinker but I have a glass here with me now and I raise it to you with fond memories.

Family History of Wade

Lesley Taylor (nee Wade):
I am trying to trace my family tree and my father James William Wade has just informed me that he recalls his grandparents James Edward and Rose Wade living in cottages at Burnt House Farm in Battle or Ninfield. This would have been around the 1930s. They had family connections to Eastbourne and the Wade's had many shops in Eastbourne Wet Fish Shop, Diary, Grocery and a Tobacconists. Does anyone at all recall a Wade family? Is there a Burnt Barn Farm in Battle?
Even better does anyone have archives of shops in Eastbourne of the 1920s or 1930s?
Would love even the tiniest bit of information.
